We have been getting lots of fun boxes over at Quilt Sandwich HQ lately! Yesterday was a doozy from Westminster, one of our favorite places to get boxes from! Let's see what was in them, shall we?
First, we are really excited to get a few pieces from Curious Nature by Parson Gray. Parson Gray is the brainchild of David Butler, AKA Mr. Amy Butler! The Butlers just cannot be stopped. Curious Nature is a neat collection of patterns and colors inspired by nature. These muted, graphic prints are perfect for a modern quilt and great if you're looking for something masculine, or at least more gender-neutral.
I really love this assortment we got! (We were sitting around our office today, congratulating ourselves on our excellent taste.) They all work well together, or you can just choose one or two for a contemporary look for your quilts, home decor or fashionable accessories. The Parson Gray booth at quilt market was full of interesting projects with these fabrics - big pillows for couches, messenger bags, scarves, what have you. The muted gray, steely blues, and black and cream are sophisticated and pretty, too. If you want to make a beautiful, modern quilt, we have some cream solid that would make a great accent, or to really jazz it up, try Kaffe Fassett's Shot Cotton in Clementine!
Next, the designers over at Rowan have cooked up this beautiful, tropical line called Caiman and we have four groovy prints! These lush fabrics feature birds, flowers, leaves, and patterns with a cool, sketchy style.
I like the unusual color scheme - the acidy green, aqua blue and rusty red are nicely accented with dark brown and crisp white. Congo, the main print (at the top), is REALLY large-scale! The big green oval is 18" tall! And the bird is 7" tall. So if you're going to use it in a project, make sure A) it's a big project and B) you order enough! Since the pattern is so large, it would be great for big throw pillows, or a large tote bag. In the middle is a cool coordinate called Jag - it's got irregular-shaped dots in a collage of colors. The pretty bird print, Okapi, is a good medium-scale print, and besides, who doesn't love birds? Finally, we have Banana Leaf, which is also a medium-scale pattern and has a cool oval design.
We're also really excited about these new VELVETEENS! These are from Anna Maria Horner's Loulouthi collection, which she wisely created in a number of different fabric types. (We also have regular quilting cotton, voile, flannel AND extra-wide embroidery fabric! Sheesh!) These velveteen fabrics are absolutely gorgeous - I was for real hugging the bolt of Clippings today, because it is just so soft and plush!
First of all, how awesome are the colors?! The background is a really bright chartreuse, so it's not for the faint of heart! It's quite stunning! The flowers and butterflies are also bright and colorful. It's just super pretty!
I also really love this funky chevron print called Zag Zig, in the Aztec colorway. Chevrons are always in good taste (hello, Missoni!) and this unusual color combo is really rockin'. The warm chocolate and orange are a nice contrast to the blues and then there's some pink, green and red too! It's a little kooky, but it works in the velveteen.
We're selling the velveteen by the half yard (rather than by the yard) because it's a little bit spendier (and heavier) than our usual fabric, so if it's a bit out of your price range, you can still try a little piece! This fabric is also 54" wide, so a half-yard cut is still pretty wide. It would be enough to make a small pillow, or try it for a special clutch, a lovely jewelry roll, or a fab scarf. Or if you're really feeling adventurous, you could get a bit more and make an amazing skirt or jacket!
Well, as always, thanks for checking us out! Head over to Quilt Sandwich on Etsy to see these and other fabrics!
