Hey there! We have been getting oodles of new fabric in the shop lately, it's been a little nutty! Today I will highlight two collections that have a Russian feel. We think you'll love them!
First we have a cute little group by Suzy Ultman for Robert Kaufman: Little Kukla!
Aww! It's adorable! We can't say no to Russian Matryoshka dolls, so we decided to get that print in two colorways: "retro" and "bright". The bright colorway (on the bottom) has a lot of happy colors - blue, red, purple, fuchsia, lime, and gold. The retro colorway is very groovy - lots of shades of yellow, orange and brown, accented by pretty teal. We have two other designs in the retro colorway, too - this super-cute bird stripe, and the onion dome towers (LOVE those!). They look great together, or just get a couple of them. The dolls especially can be a great stand-alone fabric, perfect for a special project. Try them for a little zipper bag, or some potholders for a fun gift. Or use them all in a cute quilt!
Next, we have Zhivago from Alexander Henry.
It's very Russian red! These two prints, Anastasia (top) and Nadya (bottom), are just gorgeous in person! They are both fairly large scale, especially the floral. The flowers are very pretty and have a lovely hand-drawn look. The background has a free-form stripe look in two shades of tomato red. On the bottom is another version of a Matryoshka doll fabric with a very different look than Little Kukla. (We love them both!) These pretty painted dolls are of varying sizes and accented with metallic gold - very regal!
Here's another print from the collection that is just awesome.
This is the Village print and you must see it to believe it! It's a really huge scale print - this picture really doesn't do it justice. There are all different kinds of buildings with interesting details and beautiful colors - red, gold, pink, egglplant, olive and aqua. And this fabric also has the hand-drawn quality that really makes it special. You know an actual person drew it! It's so big that I really think it would be best as either pillows or a wide border or back of a quilt. (Although I'd be a little sad that it was on a back, it's a good way to show off the whole print.) Just trust me, if you're going to get some, get at least a yard! You won't regret it.
Check out Quilt Sandwich for these and tons of other new fabrics! We've got Denyse Schmidt, Anna Maria Horner, Art Gallery and more!
Keep on quiltin' on,
Becca
