Say THAT 3 times fast! So, if you've been following our blog you may have read about the Round Robin quilting project I've been working on. If you haven't, check out Round 2 here, which has a link to Round 1. So, the gist is that me and 3 of my coworkers started out doing a quilt block and then have been passing it along to another person in the group. We recently did our third exchange and it was fun to see what everyone's been doing! Our whole office came out to take a look.
So let's see what we have this month! We'll start with Ruth's block again.
Paula had Ruth's top this time, and she decided to turn it on point so now it's getting to be nice and big! Paula designed these corner points herself, she thought they had a good leaf look, which is an element of our theme. She used a pretty red and cream print for the background which accentuates the dark teal leaf. Then she added the aqua border which blends right into the corners from Round 2 (done by yours truly, by the by).
Here's Margy's very patriotic top!
Margy loves scrappy quilts with little prints, so I dug through my stash and found some fun red, white and blue prints to add to the scraps Margy already had. Since there was already a somewhat traditional look to Margy's quilt, I decided to do some traditional blocks on two of the sides: half-square triangles and flying geese. I've never done flying geese before (they're the triangles pointing to the right), and it's pretty easy! A bit of work cutting and sewing but it's not hard. However, it's not super fast either, so that's why I stuck to just one side. The half-square triangles are a cinch, though!
Now we have Paula's, which is taking on a totally different shape!
So, Paula's started as a square, and then Margy added borders but turned it into a rectangle. Ruth had it next, and she made it really rectangular! We all really loved how she added the peachy batik fabric stars to bring out the lighter colors in the original block. Paula didn't want to do the usual red, white and blue, but she does have a sort of tropical version of those colors!
Finally, here's my block.
Margy worked on my block, and she used one of my favorite prints from the original block and added a tonal fabric in muted tones of blue and cream, which brings out the cream in the striped fabric. I like all of the triangles, especially the one on the right that points to the smaller triangle in the same print from round 2. It's turning out cute - it has a good combination of modern and vintage which I love!
So, we've all got our last blocks and we're planning on getting together for the last exchange in early October. It's been fun working on other styles of quilting and design, not to mention challenging. I feel comfortable with the fabrics I love, but using other kinds of fabrics somehow makes things more difficult so this has been a good project for me to do. I'm also looking forward to finishing my block because I could use some fun wall art for work!
See you soon!
